Young illustrator in progress

I am invited to attend my niece Win Win 's school event on 19 May 2012. I didn't expect much from this trip.  Probably just a few children making some crafty work. It was held in Ang Mo Kio library on a Sunday afternoon. We arrived quite early so we hang around the library till the teacher .

Our first stop is to check out Win Win's book. She told us so much about her 3D pop up book so we were very curious what she had made in her class. I was so excited when I see this book display on the paper.

Look at this!!!! My niece;s name is on the book! By the way, the book is bind by teacher Hazel.
She is such an amazing teaching. All the books displayed are made by her. According to the Principal, the children are divided into groups. For Win Win it is a group of 3 students. The teacher will throw in some ideas and they will work on it.

This is the first page of the book. Each student is responsible to draw a cat. Win Win's cat is on right.
(Did you spot the Sassfrass-Lass paper ? It is so cute with the three cats) Teacher Hazel also told me that she laminate each page so it looks very glossy.

According to Win Win , she also draws all the furniture on this book. Gosh isn't she amazing!!!!
End of the day, each attendee receives a certificate known as Certificate for Reading. They are so excited about it.

Before we leave the library, I asked Win Win to take a picture with the book. As it belongs to the school so we are not able to take it back. it was pretty sad but the teacher said the book will be sent to Indonesia for an exhibition over there. Wow that's sound interesting.
Well that's it for a mini exciting event that happen in May.

ELLE FASHION JOURNAL WORKSHOP

Last month in June I signed up a workshop from Elle Magazine. In the workshop a professional shared with us all about fashion and trendy. He also brought a book with him that illustrates lots of graphic and selected a few pages of his favourite artists on how they express trend. Some used colours, graphics and photos.

The next 20min session is about scrapbooking from speaker of Paper Market. She gave a brief introduction of basic scrapbooking and some tips on how to do a fashion journal. We were given 2pieces of pattern paper,  a sticker alphabets and a cardstock. In addition some buttons and ribbons are placed on each table.Plus our own supply . I brought tons of Studio Calico stamps, Amy Tangerline embellishment, washi tapes plus 2 magazine pictures that I printed using the cannon printer.

I am so into Japanese fashion and cute stuff so my head was thinking about Ribbon and bows. At first I was pretty disappointed with getting a 'Spring green' colour. Still I wanted to challenge myself so I stick on with the colour and work my fashion journal.
My favourite got to be the Studio Calico stamp designed by kelly Purkey. Awesome and fabulous lady, please check out her website. I stamped on those empty space and added  the title 'FASHION IS ALL ABOUT CUTE' tada in 80min I submitted my entry for a mini contest.

Guess what. My entry won the first prize!!!! A pixma MG5370 worth SGD299. Surprise surprise I won!!!! I can't wait to use this new printer with Wi-fi function. I can print from I pad and I phone directly. Thank you Elle magazine for giving me such a fabulous day!

a commissioned work

Two months back I was asked to do a crafty project for a birthday girl which I gladly accepted the mission. The birthday girl would like to have a 'bookmark' making session for all her invited friends.

At the same time, the busy mummy also asked me to help out with the decoration of the party event. Been inspired by so many pics from the pinterest and party blog, I come up with a simple and yet colourful decoration for the party girl.

Party girl would like to have something pink, some butterflies and importantly she would like to give each and every guest a lovely goodies bag with Smiggle pen in it. With that i come up with the requested list pink flower and butterfly mash mallow, pink lollipop  and pink table cover filled with lots of fairies and lanterns.

Due to the constraint of the table that we could rent. A table for SGD10, we used two tables, one to put those sweet goodies and the other half is the snacks that we had prepared for the guests. The children are so exited with the little cute pinkish on the table and was hoping to get some of them.

 1. decoration of the table 2. children crafting 3. ribbon hankerchief 4.food tag for fishball
5.sample bookmark 6.sample washi tape made bookmark 7. made by children. 8. children making
9. the messy mess on the table

The party started with a photo taking session and followed by the art and craft session. I was so busy from the beginning of the event and these are the limited photos that I have from another friend. the children used the kit that we provided to make 2 cute bookmarks. I love all their work, it was bright and colourful. Importantly it was easy to make and some even ask for more. That made me extremely happy.

The fun is not over yet. We played a few games from treasure hunt, to guessing games. The children love it so much that they wanted more games. As the sky was getting darker, we have to cut the birthday cake.  Love love love how they use these cute little prop which make the picture so much lovely.

Last in the list is the pinata time. Each children is given a chance to try to hit the butterfly.
the children grab their goodies bag which we given them earlier, they filled the bags with sweet as much as they can find on the floor.

With that it's home sweet home. the birthday girl is happy and so does the mommy.

unwelcome guest

Around 2010 my dad incidentally angered a crow. It was a scary experience. The crow will fly to the front of our house and started making noises and attacked my father especically when he is ready to go out. I decided to call the Town council centre for help but they can't do much. I turned to the media and the journalist came to write a report about the danger of offending the crow. We thought the saga is over when finally someone step in to cut down the tree and remove the bird nest. Now in 2012, he is back with vengenance. The routine is back again. sigh. Anyone has a good method that we can get him out of our way?

I had neglected my blog for months.
It was unintentational.
There are just so many things to do.
People who knows me will know what I am up to.

Don't worry, I will not close my blog.
I will try to post it when I am free.

Recently I am very crazy over beautiful things and simple things.
Things that make me simply happy.

I will try to share and tell you more about it.
